Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was conceived in Pittman Center on January 19 1946. She was raised in Sevierville to Avie Lee Parton (a housewife) and Robert Lee Parton (a tobacco farmer). She appeared featured on Knoxville TV at 12 years old. At 13 she recorded on a small label, and singing on the Grand Ole Opry. After graduation from the high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to begin her country singing career. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving company owner was her first love. They were married on May 30 the 30th of May, 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and asked her to be a guest on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on The Porter Wagoner Show for seven seasons. The duets they performed became famous and she was asked to perform with him at the Grand Ole Opry. In the year that her hit "Joshua" hit #1 in 1970, her popularity had eclipsed hers and she struck out on her own, but still recording duets with the singer. He was gone and she began her solo career in 1974. Dolly became a hugely popular singer/songwriter. Dolly has won many Country Music Association awards (1968 1970, 1970 and 1971, 1975, and 1976). The diminutive (5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. By the mid-1970s, she was often appearing on talk shows and prior to getting her own Dolly (1976). Dolly was awarded her first Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come Again". Dolly made her film debut in the film 9 to 5, 1980. The film received nominations for an Oscar for the title track in addition to Grammy awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Her most notable roles were in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and Rhinestone (1984) where she sang "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her chief. Dollywood was established in Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 in celebration of her Smoky Mountain roots. She was in the Dolly (1987) TV show. She won another Grammy in 1988 for Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals for "Trio".
