Evan Rachel Wood was born September 7, 1987, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her father Ira David Wood III is a stage writer and actor, and her mother Sara Wood is an actress and acting coach. She is the daughter of Dana Wood, a musician and Ira David Wood III, an actor. Evan and her brothers have occasionally performed in the Theatre In The Park in Raleigh where her father founded and for which he serves as executive director.
